MzVee, born Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda on June 23, 1992, is a Ghanaian singer renowned for her contributions to afropop, dancehall, and R&B music. She emerged as a solo artist after leading the girl group D3 under Lynx Entertainment, which disbanded in 2013 due to the members’ educational commitments.

Early Life and Education

Raised in South La Estates, Accra, MzVee hails from Keta in the Volta Region. She attended St. Martin de Porres School and later St. Mary’s Girls’ Senior High School, where she studied Home Economics. She enrolled in Business Administration at Ghana Telecom University but left in 2016.

Music Career

MzVee’s solo career launched in 2014 with the hit single “Borkor Borkor,” followed by “Natural Girl” and “Dancehall Queen.” Her debut album, Re-Vee-Lation, featured collaborations with artists like Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale. She continued her success with albums such as Verified (2015), DaaVee (2017), InVeencible (2020), and 10 Thirty (2022). In 2024, she released her latest album, POM.

In 2017, MzVee took a two-year hiatus from music due to depression. She credited fellow artist Efya for providing support during this period. MzVee returned to the music scene in 2020 with renewed vigor.

Recognition and Impact

MzVee has received numerous accolades, including the New Artiste of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards. She was nominated for the BET Awards’ Best International Act: Africa in 2016, becoming the first Ghanaian female artist to achieve this.
