AXA steps up to support Ukraine

Amid the events unfolding in Ukraine, AXA has considered how best to show its support and taken a number of measures.

The insurer has broadened its volunteering policy to allow employees up to three days per year paid leave to volunteer and support charities helping the people of Ukraine.

Apart from donating EUR6m to partner NGOs working to support the Ukrainian people, AXA has partnered with UNICEF to provide essential healthcare, education, and other support to those affected by the conflict and to allow its employees to personally donate to UNICEF.

AXA has also made the process of welcoming refugees accessible and hassle-free. Home insurance customers and landlords of let residential properties may now extend temporary accommodation to refugees without having to notify AXA. Their covers will not be impacted.

Business insurance customers with hotels or guest accommodation may also notify AXA if they wish to offer similar support to refugees under their policy.

“The news coming out of Ukraine has been very worrying and upsetting and, as the crisis moves at pace and worsens, it highlights just how fragile our world can be,” said Claudio Gienal, chief executive at AXA UK&I.

“We have now made it possible for our people to show their support in a number of ways and hope that the volunteering days will help colleagues take action if they wish [to] do so,” Gienal said. “We also want to reassure our customers who would like to support refugees that they can do so without additional requirements.”
