Nature Tourism Attraction Areas to Visit in the volta region.
Mount Afadja, known as Afadjato to the Ewe people of Ghana and Togo, is one of the highest mountains in Ghana. The summit is located in the Volta Region, near the border with Togo, close to the villages of Liati Wote and Gbledi Gbogame in the Afadjato South District and Hohoe Municipality, respectively. It is about 178 kilometres (111 mi) northeast of Accra and 178 kilometres (111 mi) northwest of Lomé. Part of the Agumatsa sub-range of the West Africa Mountains, its summit is 885 metres (2,904 ft) above sea level.
The summit of Mount Aduadu (746 metres (2,448 ft)) lies 3.5 kilometres (2 mi) to the east.
The mountain's name is "Afadja," while the suffix "-to" in the Ewe language means mountain. The correct name in the English language, therefore, would be "Mount Afadja", as "Mount Afadjato" would be a repetition of the word "mountain".
When the Ewe people migrated to the area and saw the mountain, it looked like the mound in which water yam is planted, water yam being called "Avadze" in Ewe. Moreover, some creeping plants on the mountain resembled the water yam plant; they, therefore, called it "Avadze-to". Today the word has been palatalized into "Afadjato".
Mount Afadja is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the Volta Region of Ghana, welcoming thousands of visitors from around the globe annually.
The nearby Tagbo Falls and Wli Falls (the highest in West Africa) are also popular tourist attractions. There are several caves, streams and other waterfalls in the area.

Tours are organized off the mountain for tourists, and the profits derived from them are invested in the community. A three-hour hike to the summit is a good opportunity to see colourful birds and butterflies.
Directly below the summit is the village of Helekpe, which provides hospitality, with a guest house and guides who lead tours to the summit of Adaklu and show and explain aspects of local life in the countryside. While most people in the village speak the local language of Ewe, many understand and can communicate in English as well.

Mount Gemi, also known as Mount Gemiwo, is a mountain top in the Amedzofe village in Ghana’s Volta Region. It is part of the Akwapim-Togo Ranges, a mountain range that stretches across Ghana, Togo, and sections of Benin. It is well-known for its moderate hiking paths, which allow tourists to enjoy the area’s natural splendor, which includes dense forests, valleys, and unusual rock formations. Mount Gemi’s summit offers stunning views of the surrounding area, including the Volta River, Lake Volta, and distant mountains.
The mountain climb is a test of character, but the beauty in the struggle is in reaching the mountain’s peak. Drenched in sweat, smiles and the look of the fulfilment of conquering the second highest mountain in Ghana set the right tone for taking a breathtaking picture and enjoying the beautiful views from below. But note, it is not so rosy at the top. I will advise that you go along with an insect repellant to ward off the clingy insects at the peak of the mountain.
Climbing the mountain is not as difficult as its descent. The steep edges would make you walk on pins and needles, BUT THAT’S A story for another day.
