The Ghana Export-Import Bank (Ghana Exim Bank) has commissioned a newly constructed Astro Turf facility at Hogbe Park in Anloga, marking a major boost for sports development and youth empowerment in the area.
The facility, officially named the Awoamefia Togbui Sri III Astro Turf Park, was commissioned as part of activities marking Ghana Exim Bank’s 10th anniversary.
The project forms part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at promoting youth development, sports and community growth.
Modern facility for sports development
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Deputy Chief Executive of Ghana Exim Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah, described the project as a significant investment in the Anloga community.
He explained that the old Hogbe Park had served the community for several decades, hosting football matches, social gatherings and activities associated with the Hogbetsotso Festival.
However, as sporting standards evolved, the old playing field became inadequate, creating the need for a modern facility.
According to Mr Mensah, the new Astro Turf will provide a suitable environment for competitive football and organised sporting activities throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.
The facility is also expected to support training programmes, football tournaments and inter-community competitions.
New opportunities for young people
Ghana Exim Bank said the facility is intended to provide young people in Anloga with a structured platform to develop their sporting talents.
Mr Mensah noted that sports facilities such as the new Astro Turf can help promote discipline, positive social relationships and productive engagement among young people.
Beyond sports, the facility is expected to contribute to the local economy by creating opportunities for employment, including positions for groundskeepers, administrators, security personnel and vendors.
The presence of visiting teams and officials could also generate additional economic activity for businesses in Anloga.
Management committee established
Ghana Exim Bank has announced the establishment of a management committee to oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility.
Mr Mensah stressed that proper management and responsible use would be essential to preserving the Astro Turf and ensuring that it serves the community for many years.
The bank also indicated that its commitment to the project would continue beyond the commissioning, with plans to monitor how the facility is being used.
Anlo traditional leaders express gratitude
Speaking on behalf of the chiefs, queen mothers and people of Anlo Dukor, Togbui Sri III expressed appreciation to the board, management and staff of Ghana Exim Bank for selecting Anloga as a beneficiary of the CSR initiative.
The commissioning of the new Astro Turf is expected to provide a modern sporting venue for Anloga and surrounding communities while creating new opportunities for young footballers and other sports enthusiasts in the Volta Region.
