Aflao, Volta Region β The Torkor Circuit Court in the Ketu South Municipality has sentenced a head porter, Akpalu Prince, to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to a robbery charge.
The court, presided over by His Honour Joseph Ofosu Behome, convicted the accused on his own plea after hearing the facts presented by the prosecution.
According to Chief Inspector McRae Pomevor, the complainant, a Ghana Immigration Service officer stationed at Aflao, was waiting at Ave Maria Junction on 13 July 2026 to board a commercial motorbike while holding her iPhone 12, valued at GHΒ’3,600.
The prosecution said Akpalu Prince suddenly attacked the officer, snatched the mobile phone and attempted to flee. The victim grabbed his shirt in an effort to stop him, but he pushed her against a wall before escaping.
Her cries for help attracted members of the public, who pursued and apprehended the suspect a short distance from the scene. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of the stolen iPhone, which the complainant identified as her property.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to the police together with the recovered phone. During investigations, he admitted to the offence in his caution statement.
Following his guilty plea, the Torkor Circuit Court sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement in combating crime within the municipality.
