Akatsi South Municipal Assembly Declares Friday, July 10 as Sanitation Day

Akatsi, Volta Region of Ghana– The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has officially declared Friday, July 10, 2026, as Municipal Sanitation Day, calling on residents, businesses, institutions, and community groups to participate in a municipality-wide clean-up exercise.

The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness, public health, and sustainable community development under the theme “A Clean Municipality, A Healthy Community, A Better Tomorrow.”

According to the Assembly, the exercise is aimed at improving sanitation standards by encouraging residents to clean their homes, desilt drains, clear weeds, collect refuse, and maintain public spaces. The campaign also seeks to reduce the incidence of sanitation-related diseases while fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

Municipal authorities have urged all households, market women, transport operators, schools, religious organizations, and businesses to actively participate in the clean-up exercise to ensure its success.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, the Assembly emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility that requires the collective efforts of every resident.

“Let’s Clean, Keep It Green!” is the rallying call for this year’s Municipal Sanitation Day, encouraging everyone to take ownership of the municipality’s cleanliness.

The Assembly also reminded residents to observe good sanitation practices beyond the designated clean-up day by disposing of waste properly, avoiding littering, and protecting the environment for future generations.

As part of the campaign, the public is encouraged to embrace three key environmental messages:

  • Don’t Litter
  • Keep Our Environment Clean
  • Protect Our Future

The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly believes regular community clean-up exercises will contribute significantly to improving public health, enhancing the municipality’s appearance, and creating a safer and healthier environment for all.

Residents are therefore encouraged to turn out in their numbers on Friday, July 10, 2026, to support the initiative and help make Akatsi South one of the cleanest municipalities in the Volta Region.
