Police Destroy Eight-Acre Indian Hemp Farm at Peki-Dzake

PEKI-DZAKE, Volta Region β€” The Volta Regional Police Command has destroyed an eight-acre suspected Indian hemp plantation at Peki-Dzake in the South Dayi District as part of intensified efforts to combat the cultivation and distribution of illicit drugs in the region.

The operation, carried out by personnel from the Police Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), followed intelligence gathered on illegal narcotics cultivation in the area. The exercise forms part of ongoing measures by the Ghana Police Service to identify and dismantle drug production networks across the region.

Speaking after the operation, the Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Wisdom Akorli, said the command had strengthened its efforts to clamp down on the cultivation, sale, and use of narcotic substances.

He called on residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities within their communities, assuring the public that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.

β€œThe fight against illicit drugs requires the collective support of the police and the public,” DCOP Akorli said, urging residents to work closely with law enforcement agencies to protect communities from the harmful effects of drug-related activities.

The Director of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit in the Volta Region, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Dotse Gablah, explained that the operation was triggered by intelligence that led officers to the illegal farm.

He noted that while individuals involved in narcotics cultivation often attempt to evade law enforcement, the police would continue to intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations to identify and arrest offenders.

DSP Gablah further appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of drug cultivation and trafficking to the appropriate authorities.

The Volta Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region while working to eliminate activities that threaten public safety.
