Concerns are growing over the performance of some Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Volta Region following reports that 18 schools recorded zero per cent passes in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The development has raised questions about the challenges affecting teaching and learning in some schools across the region, with education stakeholders expected to examine the factors contributing to the poor results.
Education observers say the situation highlights the need for stronger interventions to improve academic performance, particularly in schools facing challenges such as inadequate teaching and learning materials, infrastructure deficits, teacher shortages and limited academic support for students.
Parents and residents have also expressed concern, noting that the performance of schools has a direct impact on the future opportunities available to students seeking admission to tertiary institutions or entering the job market.
Stakeholders are therefore calling for closer collaboration between the Ghana Education Service, school authorities, teachers, parents and local communities to identify the specific challenges facing affected schools.
There are also calls for targeted academic support programmes, improved supervision and monitoring, and additional resources to help struggling schools improve their performance in future examinations.
The 2025 WASSCE results are expected to serve as a wake-up call for education authorities and stakeholders in the Volta Region to intensify efforts towards improving teaching, learning and overall academic outcomes.
