Twenty basic schools from across the Volta Region are taking part in the FIFA Girls’ Football Campaign, a grassroots initiative aimed at encouraging more girls to participate in football while promoting education, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
The one-day football festival is being held at the WAFA Academy in Fiavie, bringing together young female students from selected schools within the region. The campaign forms part of FIFA’s global commitment to increasing female participation in football and empowering girls through sport.
The participating schools include Toje Basic School, Fiavie Basic School, Fiavie EP School, Cuniberto Basic School, Sogakope Basic School, Dendo Primary C, Avorvi Primary B, Sogakope Primary A, Sokpoe DA, Sokpoe PCG, Tefle PCG, Tefle DA, Agorkpo Basic School, Comboni Basic School, Hlevi Basic School, Toklokpo Basic School, Avegorme Basic School, Vume Basic School, Total Child School and Amedzo Bilingual School.
The initiative combines football coaching sessions, fun games, and educational activities designed to inspire young girls to embrace sports while developing leadership skills and confidence. Organizers believe that creating opportunities at the grassroots level is essential to building the future of women’s football in Ghana.
The Ghana Football Association, working in collaboration with FIFA and local stakeholders, continues to invest in school football development programmes that provide equal opportunities for girls to discover and nurture their football talent. The campaign also supports FIFA’s wider Women’s Football Development Programme, which seeks to expand participation and improve access to the game worldwide.
Speaking ahead of the event, organizers expressed optimism that the campaign would inspire more girls in the Volta Region to actively participate in football and pursue opportunities in the sport.
The Volta Region has increasingly become an important hub for football development, with the WAFA Academy serving as one of Ghana’s leading centres for nurturing young football talent.
As interest in women’s football continues to grow across Ghana, initiatives such as the FIFA Girls’ Football Campaign are expected to play a significant role in identifying future stars while promoting inclusion, gender equality, and youth empowerment through sport.
