NSMQ 2026: Volta-Oti Regional Qualifiers Kick Off as SHSs Battle for National Championship Spot

The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Volta-Oti Regional Qualifiers have officially begun, bringing together some of the brightest Senior High Schools from the Volta and Oti Regions to compete for qualification to this year’s national championship.

The regional qualifiers, organized by Primetime Limited, provide schools with the opportunity to earn a place at Ghana’s most prestigious academic competition. The contests are expected to showcase excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), while promoting healthy academic rivalry among participating schools.

Top Schools to Watch

Several well-known schools from the Volta Region are expected to compete fiercely during the qualifiers, including:

  • Keta Senior High Technical School (Keta SHTS)
  • Bishop Herman College
  • Mawuli School
  • Keta Business College (KETABUSCO)
  • Anlo Senior High School
  • Akatsi Senior High Technical School
  • Abor Senior High School
  • St. Mary’s Seminary SHS and other participating schools.

Keta SHTS enters the competition with a strong reputation after consistently performing well in previous editions of the NSMQ and winning the 2025 Volta Regional Championship.

Competition Expected to be Fierce

Education stakeholders believe this year’s qualifiers will be highly competitive as schools have spent months preparing their contestants through intensive science and mathematics training.

Students will compete across multiple rounds covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Integrated Science and Mathematics, testing not only their knowledge but also speed, teamwork and critical thinking.

The winning schools from the regional qualifiers will secure places in the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz Championship later this year.
