Volta Council of State Representative Courts US Investors, Promotes Region’s Investment Potential

The Volta Regional Representative on Ghana’s Council of State, Dr Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has called on American and other international investors to explore investment opportunities in Ghana, with particular attention to the Volta Region.

Dr Kwamigah-Atokple made the appeal during the 5th Annual Business Exchange Forum – Invest in Ghana Dialogue held in Chicago, United States, where Ghanaian officials, business executives, investors, policymakers and members of the African diaspora gathered to discuss investment opportunities and stronger economic cooperation between Ghana and the United States.

Volta Region positioned as an emerging investment destination

Dr Kwamigah-Atokple used the platform to showcase the Volta Region as one of Ghana’s promising but underexplored destinations for investment.

He highlighted the region’s fertile agricultural lands, abundant water resources, tourism attractions and peaceful environment, saying these resources create opportunities for both local and international investors.

Among the sectors he identified are commercial agriculture, agro-processing, fisheries, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism.

The Council of State member also drew attention to plans for the development of a modern port and harbour facility in the Volta Region, which he said could strengthen the region’s position as a strategic gateway for trade and investment in Ghana and the wider West African sub-region.

Ghana seeking investment, not charity

Dr Kwamigah-Atokple told participants that Ghana was not looking for charity but for meaningful business partnerships that can generate sustainable economic benefits.

He stressed that Ghana offers opportunities in areas including value addition, industrialisation, agribusiness, logistics, tourism, technology and manufacturing.

He also pointed to Ghana’s position as a major gold-producing country, its importance in the global cocoa industry and its hosting of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as factors that can make the country attractive to investors seeking access to the wider African market.

Call for stronger Ghana-US economic ties

The Chicago forum provided an opportunity to connect Ghanaian investment opportunities with members of the international business community and African diaspora in the United States.

Dr Kwamigah-Atokple expressed appreciation to the organisers for creating a platform to promote stronger economic relations between Ghana and the United States.

He encouraged investors to identify emerging opportunities early, stressing that investment in developing areas such as the Volta Region could contribute to job creation, industrial growth and economic transformation.

He reaffirmed that Ghana remains open to investment and public-private partnerships, while emphasising that the Volta Region is ready to welcome investors interested in contributing to its long-term development.

What this could mean for the Volta Region

Increased international investment could provide opportunities for the region to expand its agricultural value chains, develop tourism infrastructure, create jobs and support local businesses.

With its strategic location, natural resources and proposed infrastructure projects, the Volta Region could become an increasingly important centre for trade, agriculture, tourism and manufacturing in Ghana and West Africa.
