The Mepe Traditional Council has appealed to the government to extend the ongoing Sege–Mepe Road project to connect with the Accra–Aflao Highway at Dove Junction.
The appeal was made by the Mankralo of the Mepe Traditional Council, Togbe Kwasi Nego VI, who said extending the road would provide an important additional link between Mepe, neighbouring communities and the national highway network.
The ongoing Sege–Mepe project is being welcomed as a major infrastructure development for the area after years of waiting. The 31.2-kilometre road project was awarded to Messrs Shenashe Limited and is expected to improve transportation and economic activity in North Tongu.
Council highlights importance of Dove Junction connection
According to Togbe Kwasi Nego VI, stopping the project at Mepe would leave an important part of the area’s road network unaddressed.
He explained that connecting the road to the Accra–Aflao Highway at Dove Junction would create a more strategic route for residents and businesses while improving access between communities.
The proposed extension could also reduce travel time and make it easier for traders, farmers, students and health workers to move between communities.
The Mankralo said improved road connectivity could support the movement of agricultural produce and goods while creating opportunities for trade, tourism, investment and other economic activities.
Road project expected to boost development
The Sege–Mepe Road is already regarded as an important project for communities in the area. Earlier inspections of the project involved local authorities and stakeholders who reviewed progress on the construction.
Traditional leaders and residents have also stressed the importance of proper drainage along the road to ensure that the new infrastructure remains durable, particularly given the area’s experience with flooding.
Appeal made during Mepe’s 70th Afenorto Festival
Togbe Kwasi Nego VI made the appeal during celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the Mepe Afenorto Festival, held under the theme:
“Mepe at 70: Unity, Investment, and Sustainable Development.”
The celebration provided an opportunity for traditional leaders and residents to highlight the community’s development priorities.
The Mankralo expressed appreciation to the government for the ongoing road project but called for sustained attention to other infrastructure and public-service needs in the Mepe Traditional Area.
He also appealed for additional support for St Luke Technical Institute at Mepe-Dadome, including more staff, equipment, workshops, dormitories and classrooms to strengthen technical and vocational education.
A call for continued investment
The Mepe Traditional Council believes that completing the proposed extension to Dove Junction would strengthen the area’s road network and contribute to long-term economic development.
The Council is therefore urging the government and relevant authorities to consider the extension as part of broader efforts to improve connectivity and infrastructure in the Volta Region.
