The Akatsi South Municipality in the Volta Region has been selected to benefit from a Solar Home Systems programme aimed at expanding access to electricity and supporting communities and households that remain outside the reach of the national electricity grid.
The initiative is expected to provide an alternative and sustainable source of energy for residents, particularly those living in remote and underserved areas where access to conventional electricity remains a challenge.
Solar Home Systems typically use solar panels to generate electricity for basic household needs, including lighting and the charging of mobile phones and other small electronic devices. The programme is therefore expected to improve living conditions while reducing dependence on costly and less environmentally friendly sources of energy.
The selection of Akatsi South is seen as an important opportunity for the municipality, as improved access to renewable energy could support education, small businesses and other economic activities in beneficiary communities.
