HO, VOLTA REGION — Residents, commuters and farmers along the Hodzo–Aviefe road in the Ho Central Municipality of the Volta Region are appealing to the government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene to ensure the completion of a bridge project that has been left unattended.
The bridge project, which was started by a contractor, has reportedly stalled, making movement between Hodzo, Aviefe and surrounding communities increasingly difficult.
Residents say the situation has become a major concern, particularly for farmers who depend on the road to transport their produce from farms to nearby markets.
According to residents, some vehicles are unable to access farms because of the poor condition of the route. They say there have been instances where harvested foodstuffs purchased by buyers have been left in the bush because vehicles could not reach the farms to transport the produce.
The situation, they fear, could worsen post-harvest losses and further affect the livelihoods of farming communities that depend heavily on the road.
Residents appeal for urgent intervention
The affected residents are therefore calling on the government and the appropriate authorities to ensure that the contractor returns to the site and completes the project.
They believe completing the bridge would improve accessibility, make it easier for farmers to transport their produce, reduce transportation difficulties and stimulate economic activity in the affected communities.
A farmer who spoke during a visit to the area appealed for the project to be treated as a matter of urgency, saying residents have endured considerable difficulties due to the condition of the route.
Bridge previously affected by heavy rainfall
The Ho Municipal Assembly had earlier reported that the Hodzo–Aviefe bridge, which was under construction, was affected by heavy rainfall. In a June 2026 update, the Assembly said excessive rainwater had flooded the construction area and advised residents and road users to exercise caution while assessments and remedial works were undertaken.
Residents are now hoping that the necessary work will resume and the bridge will be completed to restore reliable access between the communities.
For residents and farmers, the completion of the Hodzo–Aviefe bridge is not simply an infrastructure issue but an important step towards improving transportation, protecting farm produce and supporting livelihoods in the area.
