The Volta Regional Peace Council has organized a capacity-building workshop for Assembly Members in the Anloga District to strengthen their knowledge and skills in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
The training brought together 40 Assembly Members from across the district and focused on promoting peaceful coexistence, effective leadership, and early intervention in resolving community disputes.
Participants received practical training in conflict analysis, mediation, dialogue, and early warning systems. The workshop also highlighted the important role Assembly Members play in maintaining peace and promoting development within their communities.
Officials from the Peace Council emphasized that local leaders are often the first point of contact when disputes arise. As a result, they must be equipped with the necessary tools to identify potential conflicts and address them before they escalate.
The workshop also encouraged participants to strengthen collaboration with traditional authorities, religious leaders, youth groups, and community organizations to promote social harmony throughout the district.
According to the organizers, peace and stability remain essential for sustainable development, particularly at the local government level. They noted that empowering Assembly Members with conflict management skills would help reduce tensions and improve decision-making within their respective electoral areas.
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative and called for similar training programmes to be extended to other districts across the Volta Region.
The Volta Regional Peace Council continues to implement programmes aimed at strengthening peacebuilding structures and encouraging dialogue across communities in the region.
