Washington, D.C. — Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has joined a high-level Ghanaian delegation at the 2026 Convention of the Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA), held in the United States.
The 33rd CEANA Convention took place from September 3 to 7, 2026, under the theme “Preserving Our Culture, Inspiring Generations.” The gathering brought together members of Ewe communities from across North America, Ghana and other parts of the diaspora to celebrate Ewe culture while discussing development opportunities for communities in Eʋe Land.
Hon. James Gunu was accompanied by Council of State member for the Volta Region, H.E. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, Member of Parliament for Ho West and Chairman of the Volta MPs Caucus, Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah, as well as other Members of Parliament and leaders from the region.
Minister highlights diaspora partnership
During the convention, the Volta Regional Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between the Volta Region and the Ewe diaspora.
According to reports, Hon. Gunu described the convention as an important opportunity to engage members of the diaspora on issues concerning the development and progress of the Volta Region.
He highlighted the potential of the diaspora to contribute to the region through investment, skills transfer, innovation and sustainable development, while expressing his commitment to strengthening partnerships that can create opportunities for communities across the region.
Focus on culture and development
The 2026 CEANA Convention also placed strong emphasis on preserving Ewe cultural identity while using the strength and resources of the diaspora to support development.
The convention follows its official launch in Ho in March 2026 at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). At the launch, CEANA President William Kumah called for stronger collaboration between the diaspora and local communities, particularly in the areas of healthcare and education.
CEANA has also expressed interest in building partnerships across Ghana, Togo, Benin and Europe to mobilize expertise and resources for development initiatives.
Strengthening the Volta-diaspora connection
The participation of the Volta Regional Minister and other regional leaders at the convention is expected to further strengthen engagement between government, traditional and community leaders in the Volta Region and Ewe communities abroad.
For many communities in the region, stronger diaspora partnerships could provide opportunities for investment, knowledge exchange, education, healthcare initiatives and other development projects.
The CEANA Convention continues to serve as an important platform for bringing Ewe communities together while promoting cultural identity and development across borders.
