Athletic Club forward Iñaki Williams has announced his decision to bring his journey with the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, to an end.
Williams made the announcement in a heartfelt message, saying he leaves the national team with happiness, pride and the satisfaction of knowing that he gave his best whenever he represented Ghana.
“I feel the time has come to bring my journey with the Ghana national team to an end,” Williams said in his statement.
The forward, who was born in Bilbao, Spain, to Ghanaian parents, said representing Ghana had given him more than just football. He described his time with the Black Stars as an opportunity to reconnect with his roots and experience the pride of representing his country.
According to Williams, wearing the Ghana shirt and carrying the national flag on his chest was an experience he would always cherish.

Williams expressed gratitude to everyone who had supported him throughout his time with the national team, particularly the fans who showed him love and encouragement.
He said he leaves knowing that he gave everything whenever he wore the Black Stars jersey.
Although his international playing journey with Ghana is coming to an end, Williams said his connection with the country will remain strong.
He pledged to continue supporting the Black Stars from wherever he is, describing himself as one of the supporters of the national team.
“Ghana will always be a part of me. I will continue supporting the Black Stars as one of you, wherever I am,” he said.
He ended his message with a heartfelt “Medaase. Always Ghana.”
Williams’ Black Stars journey
Williams made his Ghana debut in 2022 after choosing to represent the country of his parents rather than Spain at senior international level.
He went on to feature for Ghana at major international competitions, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
His decision to step away from the national team marks the end of a chapter that saw him become one of the most recognisable Ghanaian players competing in European football.
For Black Stars supporters, the announcement brings an emotional moment as Ghana looks toward a new generation of players to carry the national team forward.
