HOHOE, VOLTA REGION β More than 5,000 people have been displaced in the Hohoe Municipality following heavy rainfall that caused the River Dayi to overflow its banks, flooding several communities.
According to reports, approximately 5,285 people from about 400 households have been affected by the flooding, with several residents forced to leave their homes in search of safer locations.
The Hohoe Zongo area is among the communities significantly affected, with some residents reportedly seeking temporary shelter in mosques and school buildings.
The flooding has also resulted in damage to homes and property, with some houses reportedly collapsing under the impact of the rising floodwaters.
Authorities have so far reported no deaths in connection with the latest flooding incident.
The situation has renewed concerns about the vulnerability of communities located along waterways and low-lying areas in the municipality, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents in affected communities have been urged to remain alert, avoid crossing flooded waterways and follow instructions from emergency and local authorities.
Emergency agencies and local authorities are expected to continue assessing the extent of the damage and the humanitarian needs of displaced residents.
