Twenty basic schools in the Volta Region have been selected to participate in the FIFA Women’s Football Campaign, an initiative aimed at promoting girls’ participation and interest in football at the grassroots level.
The campaign is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the WAFA Academy in Fiavie, Volta Region, where hundreds of young girls will receive an opportunity to engage in football activities, coaching sessions and mentorship programmes.
The programme, organised by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) through its Women’s Football Department, is expected to bring together about 300 girls from the selected schools. The initiative forms part of efforts to expand access to football for young females and create pathways for future players.
GFA officials, coaches and facilitators will lead participants through practical football sessions designed to introduce them to the sport in an enjoyable and supportive environment. Beyond learning football skills, the girls will be encouraged to pursue the game both recreationally and competitively.

The FIFA Women’s Football Campaign is part of a wider global effort to grow women’s football by supporting local programmes that bring more girls and women into the sport. FIFA has identified grassroots participation as a key foundation for developing the women’s game worldwide.
For the Volta Region, the campaign represents an important opportunity to discover young talents and encourage more girls to see football as a sport where they can participate, develop skills and build careers.
Football stakeholders believe initiatives such as this will help bridge the gap in women’s sports participation and strengthen the pipeline for future female football stars from the region.
With the growing success of Ghana’s female national teams and increasing investment in women’s football development, the engagement of young girls at the basic school level is expected to contribute to the long-term growth of the sport in the country.
VoltaWeb will continue to follow developments in grassroots sports and youth initiatives across the Volta Region.
