HOHOE, VOLTA REGION β October 2, 2026: President John Dramani Mahama has visited residents affected by the recent flooding in the Hohoe Municipality, expressing solidarity with victims and presenting relief items to support households impacted by the disaster.
The President visited the Hohoe Zongo, one of the communities severely affected by the flooding, to assess the situation and engage residents who have been displaced or whose homes and properties were damaged.
The visit comes as emergency agencies and local authorities continue relief and recovery efforts following the flooding that affected several communities across the municipality. Preliminary figures from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) indicate that about 5,140 residents have been displaced and 412 houses affected across 11 communities.
During the visit, President Mahama presented relief items to affected residents as part of efforts to provide immediate assistance to families facing difficulties following the disaster.
5,000 bags of cement pledged for reconstruction
Additional support has also been announced for residents whose homes were destroyed or collapsed during the floods.
Businessman Ibrahim Mahama, the President’s brother, has pledged 5,000 bags of Dzata Cement to assist affected households with reconstruction.
The cement is expected to support families whose homes suffered significant damage during the flooding and form part of the broader recovery effort.

Government continues emergency response
The President’s visit follows several relief interventions by the government, NADMO and other stakeholders.
Relief supplies distributed to affected communities have included food, mattresses, blankets, cooking oil, roofing sheets, buckets, mosquito nets and other essential items. Authorities have also begun technical assessments aimed at identifying drainage and structural problems that may have contributed to the flooding.
The flooding followed heavy rainfall and the swelling of the River Dayi, which has its source in neighbouring Togo. Emergency teams, including the Ghana National Fire Service, have been involved in evacuating residents from high-risk areas and providing assistance.
Authorities continue to urge residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions as recovery operations continue.
